Details
Matur Chut was a South Sudanese military general and Governor of Lakes State. He was appointed caretaker Governor on 21 January 2013 following the removal of Governor Chol Tong Mayay. A presidential decree issued by President Salva Kiir appointed Chut Governor of the Lakes State from a list of 35 South Sudanese military generals who had been placed on reserve list after being withdrawn from active military service. Wide spread violence and killings broke in Lakes State sparking protests and calls on president Kiir to fire Chut while he was undergoing medical treatment in Germany.
