A not-so-secret secret has come to light. We’re looking at you, Morgan Rielly and Tessa Virtue. And no longer whispering about whether it’s true that you’re among the power couples in sports. The Maple Leafs defenceman and retired Canadian ice dance Olympic gold-medallist confirmed their relationship on Monday in a rather Canadian way. Virtue was being interviewed by Arkells singer Max Kerman on a livestream on the band’s Instagram account when Rielly popped into the frame. “Are you guys in Vancouver right now?” Kerman asked. Both answered yes. Virtue told Kerman they’re working out together and trying “to motivate each other” which drew a good-natured sigh from Rielly. Virtue said they have been keeping busy partly by going on long walks and hikes. “We’re lucky we’re able with safe distances that we can be outside,” Virtue said. Rielly told Kerman he’s not playing as many video games as some of his teammates, including Mitch Marner and Zach Hyman, during the National Hockey League’s pause on the 2019-20 regular season because of the coronavirus pandemic.
