Nicholas Pike (1743-1819) was born in New Hampshire during the colonial era of the United States of America. He is notably credited with being the first American-born mathematician to dedicate a book to mathematics. Though it was later proven that he was not the first, his book played a major impact in changing the American School system. His book talked about important math needed in the colonies, ranging from simple things like addition and multiplication, to more complicated areas like compounding interest on loans.
