Norman Lowther Edson FRSNZ (1 March 1904 – 12 May 1970) was the first Professor of Biochemistry (1949–1967) at the University of Otago School of Medicine, Dunedin, New Zealand. He founded a modern department of biochemistry with high standards of teaching and research. Edson was an outstanding teacher. He made contributions to the understanding of, ketone body metabolism in mammals and birds, metabolic pathways of Mycobacteria and specificity rules for polyol dehydrogenases. He was a member of the enquiry commission on the fluoridation of the New Zealand public water supply.
