Theo and Richard Avedon's many affinities, constant collaboration and closeness in the late Forties may have even contributed at one point to turn their friendship into a deeper relationship. The screenplay for “Funny Face” may have even partly drawn inspiration from Theo for its main female character, a reluctant model (played by Audrey Hepburn) who falls in love with her photographer on a trip to Paris. When the movie was being cast in 1956, Theo was offered a part but by then she was in Rome, starting a new adventure. Theo and Avedon’s understanding had perhaps become less intense around 1951, when Theo met photographer Ted Croner and Avedon remarried.
