Robert J. Plomin, FBA (born 1948) is an American psychologist and geneticist best known for his work in twin studies and behavior genetics. A Review of General Psychology survey, published in 2002, ranked Plomin as the 71st most cited psychologist of the 20th century. He is the author of the 2018 book Blueprint: How DNA Makes Us Who We Are, which discusses research demonstrating that genetic factors account for most of all variation in human traits, but that such traits also have zero correlation with shared family experiences, peer groups, schools and communities, and are instead correlated with unidentified random, unsystematic, and unstable environmental influences – meaning we can do little about them.
