In what is certain to be the world`s costliest marriage split, the Chelsea FC owner, who has a fortune of £11billion, announced that he and his wife of 15 years had divorced in their native Russia.
The news came hours after Abramovich, 40, was spotted in Paris with 24-year-old model Daria Zhukova.
It ended months of speculation that Abramovich and his wife, mother of their five children, would split over his liaisons with the stunning Russian.
A statement issued by Abramovich spokesman John Mann said: `Mr and Mrs Abramovich have divorced in Russia on a consensual basis and have agreed terms in respect of arrangements for their children and a financial settlement.
`Mr Abramovich`s corporate interests, including Chelsea FC, are not affected by the divorce proceedings.
`Mr and Mrs Abramovich would appreciate it if the family`s privacy would be respected. No further comment will be made.`
Abramovich was a struggling businessman when he married his second wife Irina, then an air hostess, in 1991. On the advice of one of Irina`s friend, Irina began collecting business cards from men in first class. Their initially meeting Irina claimed she was unimpressed and thought Roman was rather dull. A few months later Irina would announce she and Roman were to wed and that they were expecting their first child together.
This came to a shock to Roman`s first wife Olga who claims the reason they divorced was to obtain Canadian citizenship.
Over the next fifteen years, Roman became one of the wealthiest businessmen in the world. Over that span, the couple have five children.
