Sidney Lionel Kark (22 October 1911 – 18 April 1998) was a South African physician, epidemiologist, professor, and pioneer of social medicine and public health. Together with his wife, Dr Emily Kark, they developed the foundations of Community-Oriented Primary Care (COPC), a model of health care that integrates primary care with public health and community-based services. His work emphasised the social determinants of health, adopting a holistic approach that considered the wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities within their social and environmental contexts.
