Steve Kangas (Steven Robert Esh, May 11, 1961 – February 8, 1999) was a journalist, political activist and chess teacher known for his website Liberalism Resurgent and highly political usenet postings. Until 1986 he allegedly worked for the U.S. military. His stay in Berlin turned him from a conservative into an outspoken liberal. His writings were sharply critical of the business propaganda of the overclass and the CIA. Kangas lived for a time in Greenville, SC where he lived with his brother in a small apartment. He worked primarily in low wage food service jobs. In 1992, Kangas married a woman 8 years his junior and relocated with her to the Santa Cruz, California area. During this time, Kangas was reportedly abusive both physically and mentally to his young bride. He also was known to be an alcoholic and could not drive due to prior DWI convictions His bride left him after 6 months of arriving in California. After this separation, Kangas became increasingly fascinated with capitalists and began voicing his opinions and theories across the internet.
