Thomas Richard Nides (born 1961) is an American banker and civil administrator who is currently Managing Director and Vice Chairman of Morgan Stanley. He serves as a member of the Firm's Management Committee and Operating Committee. Nides was previously the United States Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, having been appointed by President Obama in 2010. Nides has served in multiple financial institutions and in a variety of governmental roles. He is a strong proponent of diversity efforts in government and in the private sector, including reducing the funding gap for women and multicultural entrepreneurs
