Tupac Enrique Acosta is a Xicano elder, practitioner of Nahua tradition, organizer, and human rights activist. His guidance was critical in the formation of the Nahui Ollin educational framework implemented in the former K-12 Mexican American Studies Department Programs in Tucson Unified School District and in its evolution, the Xicanx Institute for Teaching & Organizing. Acosta roots his work in a holistic perspective of history, attributing contemporary human rights abuses in the United States to colonialism and the doctrine of discovery. He has founded several organizations and frequently works in collaboration with Indigenous rights groups.
