The couple met at the Hollywood Palace when Flight author Bonta was a VIP guest at the first Yuri`s Night World Space Party. He is an engineer mostly involved with aerospace.
It was rumored a meeting of minds and chemistry for these two. They married and two years later, Newcomb
designed the rocket engine computer for the historic SpaceShipOne, the first privately launched manned spaceship (by aviation genius Burt Rutan) that won the 10 Million Dollar Ansari X-Prize.
They`ve been spotted in Italy, Greece, and once in Africa for a solar eclipse.
Vanna insisted he join her when the National Space Society invited her to a maiden zero gravity flight in 2004. It was on that flight that Bonta saw a future need for humanity as it migrates to space and invented the flight garment "2suit" that can secure people to each other for work or play in floaty zero gravity environments. Her invention was the subject of an MSNBC feature in 2006, and later a documentary.
In 2008, Bonta was approached by The History Channel`s Universe series to be interviewed about her invention. The television series pioneered the manufacture and zero-gravity testing of the first 2Suits (two-suits). The show premiered on
in Dec. 2008, and of course she picked her mate on the history-making first official mission to test human intimacy in extreme environments for
humankind`s migration into space.
Allen romantically named a lunar lander spaceship he designed for a NASA competition after the fictional spaceship in Bonta`s first novel of the Flight series, and attributes Vanna as his inspiration.
Are we seeing a theme here yet? This couple is starry-eyed love and the meeting of high power minds is known to spark heated friction.
