Her court [Beatrice's] was abundant with men of every virtue and exercise, and above all with musicians and poets, from whom, besides other compositions, not a month passed without expecting from them either an eclogue, a comedy, a tragedy, or some other new spectacle or representation. The high Comedy of the vulgar poet was read regularly at a suitable time by Antonio Grifo, a man most excellent in that faculty, nor was it a small relaxation of spirit for Ludovico Sforza when, free from the great occupations of the state, he could hear it. That court was adorned by three generous knights who, besides their poetic faculty, were distinguished by many other virtues: Niccolò II da Correggio, Gasparro Vesconte, Antognetto da Campo Fregoso, and many others, among whom I was also present, having obtained the position of secretary with that illustrious and most virtuous Lady.
