Mrs. Arakawa Hackman met Gene in the early 80’s at a gym where she worked and he was a member.
Betsy and Hackman began dating in 1984, they got married in December, 1991. Betsy was a former classical pianist.
In 1991, Hackman married Betsy Arakawa. They lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Betsy was co-owner of an upscale retail home furnishings store in Santa Fe called Pandora's, Inc. a home furnishings store in Santa Fe with her friend Barbara Lenihan.
Both were found dead at their Santa Fe home at the end of February 2025 with his pacemaker having stopped on the 17th. One of their dogs was found dead too, while the other 2 were alive and roaming around the house.
