Jack Bruce had an affair with Mary Ambrose, Robert Palmer's housekeeper and sometimes lover from 00 to 01. I worked for Robert as a houseman, and was witness to the affair. Robert and Jack were great mates. Mary dated a lot of men, revolving door comes to mind, many Robert's mates. Seeing this, Jack thought he could have a no strings arrangement with Mary, as he was married. It backfired. Mary formulated the idea Jack was going to marry her, of which he had no intentions. Mary became ballistic, then vitriolic when it became evident no nuptials were forthcoming, made a good deal of trouble for Jack. Robert had to call her off, Jack was his mate after all. It was an unpleasant situation.

I worked for Robert Palmer as a part time bookkeeper. He was very good friends with Jack Bruce, who was a frequent house guest of his. Robert was friends with and sometimes dated a woman named Mary Ambrose, who also worked for him as his housekeeper and PA. Although Jack Bruce was married to Margrit Seyffer, he was like a lot of men who thought it was okay to date while married. He became involved with Mary Ambrose, who took things the wrong way thinking she was going to be the next Mrs. Jack Bruce. When Jack Bruce dissuaded her of this notion, she became livid. I knew the woman, and she tended to be narcissistic. Very publicly at a party she screamed at Jack "How dare you not divorce Margit! I'm better than her." After that, she attempted to enact a campaign to ruin Jack Bruce's life, which failed naturally. She even tried to sever his relationship with Robert Palmer, who advised Mary that that if it came down to a choice between her or Jack, he would choose Jack.

You forgot three wives. Jack Bruce was briefly married at age seventeen and had one son from that marriage. He has failed to mention the name of that wife publicly citing the short time they were married. He married Janet Godfrey in 64 after living with her. They divorced in 73. Jack Bruce then married Rose Millar in late 75. They divorced. And he married Margrit Seyffer in 1980 and is still married to her. The maenids comment is correct. In more than one interview Bruce, while inebriated, I am guessing, joked about his maenids. I guess by referring to groupies by a different name he thought he was not cheating on his wives. It did not work. A few "maenids" spoke openly of their relationships with good old Jack. Why did he think these women were going with him in the fist place? They managed to get a little publicity for themselves. They sure were not with him because of his swell personality and great looks.

Jack Bruce has been married since 1980 to his current wife, Margit Seyffer. Janet Godfrey divorced him in 1973, and he was married on two more occasions. Although consistently married since the age of seventeen, Jack Bruce was known to love the groupies, which in his case he referred to as his "maenids" the name ancient Greeks used to describe the followers of Dionysious, the God of Wine. His infidelity was the cause for the crash of his marriage to Janet Godfrey, who was married to him in 1964. A person can only take so much. On several occasions, because of the same problems and Jack Bruces substance abuse problems as well, Margrit has separated from him, however, since they do have four children together she always took him back. Jack Bruce and sometimes more than one of his maenids have been seen in public together, loud and obvious. It is a good thing that his wife is an understanding woman. Some men do not know when to call it a day and calm down. Jack Bruce is one such man.
