Janet Vivian Hooks (April 23, 1957 – October 9, 2014) was an American actress and comedienne, best known for her work on Saturday Night Live, where she was a repertory player from 1986 to 1991, and continued making cameo appearances until 1994. Her subsequent work included a regular role on the final two seasons of Designing Women, a recurring role on 3rd Rock from the Sun and a number of other roles in film and television including on Tina Fey’s NBC show 30 Rock and The Simpsons.

Jan was so brilliant, fresh, and funny even in interviews. She is so missed, and she cannot be replaced. She was a naked flame of natural genius. People like her don't come along often. Wish she was still here.

It's such a shock to see that headline. I'm only two years younger than her, and I remember seeing her on a show called 'Tush' out of Atlanta when I was in my early 20's. She was part of an ensemble cast on this locally-produced comedy show, but so obviously more talented than the rest of them. At the time I thought she really deserved to make it big, so I was proud my instincts proved correct when i saw she had been cast on 'SNL'. What a great talent, so sad to lose her
