In 1961 Hudson`s Bay High School and Fort Vancouver High School were promoting a play at a local television studio in Portland, Oregon. I had just sat down awaiting our turn to go on when this absolutely gorgeous blond walked in. My first thought was she`s beautiful enough to be a movie star. She was ever so gracious as she sat down next to me. Soon the announcer said, And now I`d like to introduce to you none other than Miss Daisy Mae. The actress was Leslie Parrish. A friend of mine later gave me a book to read called The Bridge Across Forever by Richard Bach. On Page 88 Richard meets Leslie Parrish. Now I knew why I had received the book. I had no idea this gorgeous blond was so extraordinarily ordinary; so intelligent; so accomplished; so gracious as to come to Portland to help a bunch of high school kids promote a play. I do hope Richard and Leslie wouldn`t mind my mentioning that incident and Richard`s love story in a novel I`m writing. God Bless! Ron Bales
