She is most remembered for her roles as Claire Avery in the ITV4 crime drama series The Saint, Miranda Grey in the 1965 psychological horror film The Collector, Emma Fairfax in the 1967 musical comedy film Doctor Dolittle, Phyllis Dietrichson in the 1973 made-for-television crime drama film Double Indemnity, Mary-Louise Murphy and Meg Chase in the ABC romantic comedy-drama anthology series The Love Boat, Hera (voice) in the 1997 animated musical fantasy comedy film Hercules as well as in the syndicated animated series Hercules: The Animated Series, Charlotte Devane in the ABC daytime soap opera All My Children, Sister Vivian in the CBS police procedural crime drama series Cold Case, and Sarah Templeton in the ABC political drama series Commander in Chief. After beginning her career in Shakespearean theatre she rose to fame for her performance in William Wyler's thriller The Collector (1965), which earned her a Golden Globe Award, a Cannes Film Festival Award and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
