Gene Tierney had this preternatural ability to be alluring and icy at the same time; she could change emotional colors with magnificent yet subtle clarity. Wasn’t she sweet and warm a moment ago? Maybe, but now she’s ready to some harm. She was at the top of her game in Leave Her to Heaven, for which she received the Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for a performance that is electrifying and chilling. Alongside Laura (1944), The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947), Heaven Can Wait (1943), Whirlpool (1949), and The Razor’s Edge (1946), Tierney amassed a list of credits to stack against any other actress of the late 1940's.
