Izear Luster "Ike" Turner Jr. (November 5, 1931 – December 12, 2007) was an American musician, bandleader, songwriter, arranger, talent scout, and record producer. An early pioneer of fifties rock and roll, he is best known for his work in the 1960s and 1970s with his then-wife Tina Turner in the Ike & Tina Turner Revue.

Ike Turner was a pioneer. He was not the first musician to became addicted to drugs and assault someone. Unfortunately, many talented musicians have a lot of personal issues. Al Green, James Brown, John Lennon, Axl Rose, Chuck Berry, and etc. all were just as bad (some worse) than Ike yet they have been forgiven for their transgressions and are held to a high regard. Maybe because they were stars and Ike's specialty was collaboration. Their spouses were never stars themselves like Tina. Ike helped a lot of musicians and singers behind-the-scenes as a songwriter, producer, bandleader and talent scout. Little Richard wrote the intro to Ike's autobiography. There is no Tina Turner without Ike Turner. His contributions are too important to dismiss. Mental health isn't discussed enough. Ike had undiagnosed bipolar disorder for many years so drugs worsened his condition. Despite his faults, he still made a positive contribution in his lifetime. RIP Ike

No ones better than another? So Florence Nightingale isn't a better person than say Ted Bundy. Come on! He chose to beat up his wife. He brought his bad reputation on himself. That doesn't take away anything from him as a music talent though.

I agree with Tasha657, Ike`s music may have been some of the greatest early Rock and Roll, but he will forever be remembered as the wife beater he was. Some masculine legacy!! Coward is more like it.
